The Toyota Kirloskar Workers’ Union has withdrawn its hunger strike and will, instead, start a relay hunger strike after some workers were hospitalised.

Concerns have been growing among senior trade union leaders and non-governmental organisations over the health of some workers who are protesting over the suspension of 32 employees as well demanding a wage increase.

This week a number of workers have had to be hospitalised. The Labour Commissioner, who had called for a meeting between the workers and the management, had to postpone because company officials did not turn up.
