Hyundai Mobis says it has developed a roof airbag that prevents passengers from being ejected from the sunroof in a rollover accident.

Hyundai Mobis' roof airbag is deployed under the surface side of the vehicle in a rollover accident, covering the entire roof in just 0.08 seconds, protecting and preventing all passengers from being ejected from the sunroof, the company says.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has conducted a safety evaluation of Hyundai Mobis' roof airbag.

In January, NHTSA gave a presentation on the 'Status of NHTSA's Roof Ejection Mitigation Research' at 2020 SAE Government/Industry Meeting hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and disclosed the evaluation results of Hyundai Mobis' roof airbag.
