General Motors has announced it plans to temporarily stop the production of its fully autonomous Cruise Origin van.
It comes after California’s Department of Motor Vehicles suspended GM’s robotaxi unit, in October after calling its AVs a risk to the public.
Cruise operations were stopped across the US.
Speaking to Reuters, a GM spokesperson said: “We are finishing production on a small number of pre-commercial vehicles and after that, plan to temporarily pause production.”
GM has announced it had formed a JV with Honda and Cruise for driverless ride-hail services in Japan, with services expected to begin in 2026.
The Origin vehicles are being built in Detroit, USA.
