The Volkswagen supervisory board, due to meet on 23 November, might delay approving new SUVs from Bentley and Lamborghini, according to Reuters, citing unnamed sources.

Bentley showed the EXP 9F concept at the Geneva show this year while Lamborghini unveiled the Urus at the Beijing show.

Both divisions want SUVs to help boost profitability – Lamborghini hasn’t made a profit since 2009 – and to take established players such as Land Rover’s new Range Rover and new entrants like Fiat’s Maserati which is due to start production next year of the Jeep-based Kubang.

“Such vehicles are anything but obligatory during a crisis,” Frankfurt-based Equinet AG analyst Tim Schuldt told Reuters. “Delaying their launch would be no drama but help save costs.”
