To help combat rising petrol and diesel prices, Volkswagen will promote fuel efficient driver training.

According to Automobilwoche, which has seen internal documents, Volkswagen currently offers three options for driver training in Germany, but it will start promoting these more heavily.

Buyers who go to the Wolfsburg Autostadt customer centre to pick up their new cars are currently offered a driving lesson in fuel-efficient driving, or eco-driving, for EUR17.

Customers could alternatively take part in the VW Driving Experience which is offered at dealers in cooperation with a German environmental protection organisation, NABU (Naturschutzbund Deutschland). This is used to calculate a driver’s particular driving style and feed back the potential for reducing fuel consumption.

The third alternative is for interested parties to book special events with the VW Driving Experience, through local dealers.
