The German News Digest reports that the Germany’s northwestern state of Lower Saxony, the largest shareholder in Volkswagen, wants the company to cut its prices.

So far, discount campaigns have shown that the sales volume of VW cars can be boosted by a favourable price, Lower Saxony’s Economics Minister Walter Hirche said on October 8, 2004.

Hirche further voiced hopes that Wolfgang Bernhard, who is to join VW’s board, will manage to cut labour costs significantly.
