MAN says that demand for heavy trucks in Europe will fall by around 10-12% this year and will only start picking up again in 2003.

“This year, the European market for trucks will decline by 10-12%,” MAN’s chief of commercial vehicles, Hakan Samuelsson, told the daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

“There’s no sign of any improvement yet. We expect the market to be in better health in 2003,” he said, adding that “the economic environment is still too uncertain to warrant buying new trucks.”
