Daimler plans to reduce working hours in the first few months of next year.

Employees were to be told on Monday (8 December) that hours would be cut because of the downturn in global demand.

According to a German press agency, an agreement for a short-time working was already on the table for the Sindelfingen plant, while a similar agreement was being negotiated at the engine and gearbox plant in Untertürkheim.

Daimler sales in November were down around 25%. Mercedes-Benz sales were down even more at 28%.

Around 150,000 Daimler workers at 14 production locations are already taking extended Christmas holidays, in some cases up to four weeks.
