Despite their recent separation, Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz are planning to work together in a number of areas in the future.

According to Automotive News Europe, a joint committee will be set up to coordinate projects between the two companies. Frank Klegon, vice president for product development at Chrysler Group told the newspaper that the companies are considering technology sharing, for example sharing SUV chassis. He said that all projects would be considered a ‘project-by-project’ basis.

Klegon emphasised that there would be no shared platforms.

Separately head of development at DaimlerChrysler, Thomas Weber, said that there would be no cooperation between Mercedes and BMW to share platforms.

German consumer magazine Auto Bild reported last week that the two companies were looking into basing the next generation A-class on a BMW Mini platform.
