DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche said today that Chrysler is in talks with GM on the possibility of jointly producing some models.

According to Reuters, Zetsche said that GM had approached Chrysler and that they are considering building some SUVs and possibly other cars together.

“This has shown potential but those talks have not come to a conclusion but have certain promise,” he told reporters.

GM expressed an interest in working with Chrysler following a statement at DaimlerChrysler’s conference that the group would consider ‘all options’ for Chrysler. The company has embarked on a turnaround, which Zetsche said today he is confident will yield positive results, but interest from private equity companies including Blackstone and Cerberus could result in Chrysler being spun off.
