Daimler’s Smart brand is seeing a major uplift to sales and production this year on the back of its introduction to the US.

Worldwide Smart car sales were up an impressive 47% to 113,200 units in the first ten months. Production is expected to hit around 138,000 units this year compared with 102,000 units last year.

Some 28% of current production at Smart’s Hambach plant is allocated for export to the USA, where the cars are distributed by Penske.

China and Brazil are to be targeted as new markets for Smart in the coming year
