The
Chevrolet Celta that GM Brazil starts exporting in June will have a 92bhp 1.6-litre,
eight-valve engine.
The version built for Brazil has a 60bhp one-litre engine to take advantage
of a special sales tax rate of 10 percent – cars with larger engines pay
25 percent.
The one-litre engine would have little appeal in other markets so GM decided
to build the 1.6-litre model for export. It is also considering launching the
larger engined version in Brazil.
