Skoda is to cut engine production for the rest of the year for parent company Volkswagen because of a slowdown in demand in South America, according to press reports.

Skoda’s union chief was quoted by the weekly union magazine Skodovacky Odborar as saying that the company has put in a request to cut 21 shifts in the remainder of the year.

Jaroslav Povsik added that the cuts involved the production of three-cylinder engines.
