The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is staging its first automobile show in its
capital of Urumqi City this week, says Xinhua News Service (6/12/00).
Tthe event – with 35 auto-makers across China present – will have more than
1,200 vehicles on display from 150 brands, including the Alto and the Chang`an.

A manager of the Shanghai Automobile Industry says that Xinjiang has potential
in automobiles sales as highway facilities are improving and local residents
have stronger purchasing power.
