Great Wall Motors (GWM) plans to invest about US$300m to establish an SUV production plant in Thailand.

GWM’s deputy general manager Wang Shi Hui told Bangkok Post that the factory would manufacture 100,000 vehicles annually on an area of 800,000 square metres. The company will carry out the investment in two phases, adding a production capacity of 50,000 vehicles in each phase.

GWM is due to begin construction by the end of 2013 and commercial production in 2015. The factory may be established on an industrial estate in Rayong province, although its exact location has not been revealed yet.

At the Bangkok International Motor Show, Wang said GWM considered Thailand a market with high growth, good infrastructure, abundant auto parts supplies and competitive wages.
