GB Auto has started Geely Emgrand EC7 production in Cairo, Egypt. The plant, which assembles the car from complete knock down (CKD) kits, has an annual production capacity of 30,000 vehicles.
Geely, which assembles cars in Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and Egypt, is planning to open plants in Brazil, India, and Iran, reported Xinhua.
GB Auto is establishing Geely dealerships in Egypt and will export the EC7 to other countries in North Africa and the Middle East under an agreement signed in February. Other Geely models may be asembled in Egypt later.
Geely’s overseas sales rose 76% year on year to 38,000 cars in 2011. The automaker plans 80,000 this year.
