Some 12.55m tons of rolled steel are expected to be used in the production of Chinese vehicles this year.


According to local estimates, that demand will leap to 27.67m tons by 2010. According to the China Daily, Shi Jianhua, deputy head of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, estimates that the total will be made up of 9.41m tons of steel plates and 3.14m tons of construction steel.


The report said that an estimated 17.94m tons of rolled steel was needed last year by the industry, up 19% on the year before.
