Manac, a division of Canam Manac Group, said on Thursday it will shut its Orangeville, Ontario, van plant for 25 weeks starting on July 10, a move that will affect 235 jobs, Reuters reported.

The Quebec City area-based steel products maker blamed the temporary shutdown on “continued stringent economic circumstances prevailing in the North American semi-trailer industry” and the major fluctuations of the Canadian dollar versus the US currency, the news agency added.

Reuters said production will be centralised at the firm’s Saint-Georges-de-Beauce plant southeast of Quebec City though no increase in personnel was planned there.
