Chinese EV maker BYD‘s premium sub brand Yangwang showed the U8 off-road SUV and U9 supercar, plus the Yangwang architecture at the event and launched pre-sales of two U8 variants priced from RMB1,098,000 (US$160,000).

BYD said the Yangwang U8 was positioned as a “million (yuan) level, high end, new energy, hardcore, off road SUV equipped with two full stack, in house-developed core technologies: the e4 Platform and DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System, boasting excellent off-road capability and technology”.

Based on the e4 Platform, the U8 has a claimed maximum 1100+ horsepower and 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.6 seconds, can be operated “stably under extreme conditions”, float on water and streams and take a 360 degree tank turn”.

The U8 Premium Edition has even more off road capability, luxury features and intelligence. The Off-road Master Edition, designed specifically for off-road use, is described as “the ideal choice for seasoned adventurers”.

Also now on pre sale, the U9 was also officially launched at the Shanghai show.

The new Yangwang Architecture also launched in Shanghai, was developed for premium NEVs and comprises six core BYD technologies, including the e4 Platform, DiSus Intelligent Body Control System, Blade Battery, Master Body, Smart Cockpit, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The U8 and U9 are the first two models on this new architecture.
