The automakers in Brazil produced 146,656 vehicles in January 2003 according to data issued by the Brazilian National Automakers Association (ANFAVEA), an increase of 18.1% over the same month last year.
However, January vehicle sales in Brazil declined by 2.3% over last year to 112,046 units.
GM led the Brazilian car market in January with a 26.8% share, with Fiat in second place with 25.6%. Volkswagen was in third place and a share of 22.1%.
In January, Brazil exported 30,904 vehicles – a decline of 25.6 against December’s level, but almost double the level of January 2002 (16,527 units).
