BMW’s supervisory board has named Walter Mertl as chief finance officer to replace Nicolas Peter who will retire after the AGM on 11 May 2023.

Mertl joined the automaker in 1998 and has held various managerial positions in the finance and sales & commercial divisions in Germany and the UK. This included responsibility for central functions in group reporting, corporate accounting and in corporate controlling. In recent years, he headed the group corporate controlling division.
