Opel’s workforce is currently voting on ‘a pre-agreement’ that could pave the way for future investment at its threatened Antwerp plant.
Staff at GM’s European Opel operation began voting at 05:00 (04:00 BST) this morning (26 April) with the ballot open until midnight tonight.
If the vote on the agreement – dealing with the social plan for Antwerp that could see around 1,250 redundancies out of a 2,300 total is positive – this could lead to a memorandum of understanding being signed and leading the way to securing a potential new investor.
Sources close to the vote at the Antwerp plant say that counting will start at 10:00 tomorrow morning with the result known by midday local.
