PLANS by the Belgian government to inject Euro 6.5 million, (BEF 262.5 million), state aid into the troubled Ford Genk plant, have been abandoned, it has emerged.

The European Commission has confirmed that the Belgian authorities had withdrawn its notification of the plan to pay the money, which had been earmarked for adaptations to enable the plant to produce a new model of the Ford Transit. The Commission had already aired doubts that the plan would follow EU state aid rules.
