Mitsubishi plans to increase exports of passenger vehicles to the Middle East from April 2001 with the aim of increasing the operation ratio of the Australian plant, reports Japanese Automobile News. Mitsubishi is scheduled to export about 10,000 units a year of the Magna (Diamante). The Adelaide plant currently produces the Magna and the Verada (based on the Magna) but total annual production is only 46,000 from a plant that can make 70,000 vehicles.

At present, Mitsubishi Australia exports 12,000 Diamantes a year to the US but just 1,000 to the Middle East.
