Posco says it is to start construction of a lithium plant in Argentina with an annual production capacity of 200t, due to commence operations at the end of December.

The facility, which features Posco’s lithium extraction technology, will sail for five weeks to a port in Chile, after which it will travel by land for a week through the Andes Mountains, finally arriving at the Cauchari salt lake located in Jujuy, north-west Argentina.

Once the 200t lithium carbonate demo plant is completed at the end of November, it will start normal operations by the end of December, rounding off the final-stage test of the direct lithium extraction technology.
