Skoda has made a million sports utility vehicles nominating the milestone vehicle as a green Karoq.

The UK unit said it had accounted for about 10% of the overall tally.

Skoda production head Michael Oeljeklaus said: "We are currently taking the necessary measures to continue meeting the growing demand for vehicles in this segment in the future. For example, we are expanding our Kvasiny plant into a centre of excellence for SUV production. In addition, since the beginning of the year the Karoq has been the brand's only vehicle to be produced at two of our Czech sites."

Skoda entered the segment with the 2009 Yeti in 2009. More recently came the Kodiaq in spring 2017 and the Karoq in October. This year brought the Kamiq sold only in China.

Skoda also makes or assembles SUVs in India, Russia, China and Germany.

SUVs are one of the cornerstones of the automaker's Strategy 2025 plan.
