Adil Shirinov has been appointed CEO and President of Ford’s Russian JV, Ford Sollers, effective immediately. He replaces Mark Ovenden, who takes a marketing role with Ford in Asia Pacific.

Shirinov moves from being COO at Ford Sollers and is the first Russian national to hold the position.

Shirinov has been working for the Ford Sollers JV since its foundation in 2011. Mark Ovenden, currently CEO and President of Ford Sollers is named vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Asia Pacific, Ford Motor Company, effective immediately. At the same time, he also is elected a Ford Motor Company officer.

Before joining Ford Sollers in 2011, Adil Shirinov was deputy general director and commercial director of Sollers and was responsible for managing all commercial negotiations with partners. Prior to that he served as general director of all business units in Tatarstan, including Elabuga and Naberezhnie Chelny plants.

Ford Sollers joint venture is responsible for the production, import and distribution of all Ford brand products, including vehicles, parts and accessories, in Russia. Ford Sollers joint venture includes production facilities in Vsevolozhsk (St. Petersburg region), Naberezhnye Chelny and Elabuga (The Republic of Tatarstan) and headquarters located in Khimki (Moscow Region).

Unlike GM, Ford has decided to hang on to its Russian operations and sees good long-term growth potential, in spite of the Russian economic recession and collapse of the currency. Ford also maintains that it has got its Russian operations into breakeven territory this year, helped by a stabilised Russian car market that is now starting to expand again.
