BRIEFING: The South African automotive industry

This month, we take a look at vehicle production in South Africa. It is the second biggest industry in South Africa, and one of its fastest-growing sectors, with vehicle exports now accounting for nearly 7% of the country's exports. We include an overview with the Industry Development Programme (MIDP), including Q&A's with key executives. Strategic planning consultant Johan Cloete, who has been working on the review of the MIDP, explains his vision for 2020, and we talk to Ken Manners, president of the component suppliers' association NAACAM about the challenges facing the South African automotive industry.
