Geely’s Volvo Cars has attracted a lot of coverage and attention recently – future electrification plan, acclaimed new models, new assembly plant in the US, etc – so it’s no surprise our analysis of its future model plans attracted the largest number of eyeballs on just-auto this week. Not unrelated, our new model debut lists for motor shows and other launch event venues always go down a treat and we covered both the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Monterey.
Also very popular: a look at how Brexit-related costs mount up. The original need to write on the subject was based on the automotive industry having become more vocal about the effects of Brexit as the possibility of a no-deal Brexit looked more plausible. JLR boss Ralf Speth had said that a “bad Brexit” would cost the company GBP1.2b in lost profits per annum. just-auto had carried out some work in tandem with Ian Henry’s AutoAnalysis consultancy on the issue towards the end of 2017 and thus knew that Speth’s words of warning were far from hollow. So how would those costs mount up under a ‘hard’ Brexit scenario? Have a read.

Tesla is never out of the news long and this week announced plans for a new plant in China and there were also reports of a local dispute in normally EV-friendly Norway and price hikes in China.
A natural disaster has again disrupted production in Japan and, in better news, sales in western Europe increased.
With China loosening the rules a little, there was a flurry of announcements recently including news of a new BMW JV to build the electric Mini and EVs for partner Great Wall. Essential to meet the country’s New Energy Vehicle quotas.
Have a nice weekend.
