Stellantis will spend approximately Rs40bn ($421.5m) in India over three years, launching 12 products, expanding localisation, and trebling yearly sales to roughly 45,000 units.

The capital allocation is supplementary to an earlier Rs110bn investment programme.

It will support the introduction of seven entirely new vehicles and five major updates across the group's Jeep and Citroën marques, with the initial offering scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2027.

Stellantis India CEO and managing director Shailesh Hazela told Business Standard: “Around Rs110bn is the announcement which we have done long back and we are using it for the development of Jeep, Citroënand the plants, among others. And, this additional Rs40bn will be going in this roadmap of 12 products and taking localisation of all products close to 90%.”

The model rollout will centre mainly on sport utility vehicle (SUV) categories, while also adding a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a premium pickup truck.

Powertrain selections will feature internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric configurations, determined by commercial viability and consumer demand.

The fresh expenditure will elevate component localisation for Jeep models from the present 70–75% band to around 90%, matching Citroën, which already exceeds 90% local content in India.

Stellantis also intends to produce left-hand-drive variants of vehicles assembled in India to extend its export coverage to upwards of 50 countries.

At present, the carmaker supplies Citroën units to five or six overseas destinations, while Indian-produced Jeep models are sent to Japan and Australia.

Right-hand-drive vehicles assembled at the Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu are delivered to West Asia, Africa, and Indonesia, alongside powertrain exports of engines and transmissions to European markets.

The manufacturer has avoided setting a fixed volume balance between domestic deliveries and exports, opting instead to assess output allocations each year based on individual market demand.

In the domestic market, Stellantis maintains around 300 sales and service locations, with roughly 80% operating under the Stellantis Brand House setup that combines retail and aftersales operations for Jeep and Citroën.

The investment programme follows the automaker taking full ownership of the Thiruvallur manufacturing plant last month.

Earlier this month, Stellantis signed a definitive agreement with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) to create vehicles for more than 50 international markets and produce them in India.
