Signal: Siemens to acquire Heliox

Move adds heavy-duty EV charging solutions to e-mobility portfolio

Luke Martin August 24 2023

Siemens AG has signed a deal to acquire fast-charging technology provider Heliox.

Heliox is a Netherlands-based specialist in fast charging solutions, serving e-Bus and e-Truck fleets and passenger vehicles.

Siemens said it plans to “acquire the company from private equity firm Waterland and an entity owned by a group of employees and individual shareholders.”

Headquartered in the Netherlands, Heliox employs around 330 people.

The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approval. If granted, Heliox would become part of Siemens eMobility, which is part of Siemens Smart Infrastructure.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure offers IoT-enabled hardware, software and services for AC and DC charging from 11 to 300 kW for a broad range of applications.

Why it matters

The acquisition would add to Siemens’ charging portfolio with Heliox’s technology for e-Bus and e-Truck fleets and passenger vehicles.

The deal would also expand Siemens’ market reach in both North America and Europe.

In addition to expanding its offering in heavy-duty EVs, Siemens also sees digitalisation and software potential with regard to ancillary energy, depot management and other services. The move is highly synergistic.
