The new Renault Trafic E-Tech electric is going on sale in the UK and is described by the company as the the brand’s first software-defined vehicle (SDV).
Pricing for the light commercial vehicle starts at GBP38,000 + VAT.
Renault says the Trafic E-Tech electric comes with up to 292 miles of electric range and ultra-fast charging.
The UK line-up comprises two trim levels – advance and extra – with two body lengths, panel van and crew van configurations, and a choice of 60kWh or 81kWh batteries.
As Renault’s first SDV, it can gain new features and improved functionality throughout its working life, rather than being limited to the technology fitted when it leaves the factory.
Renault also says the advanced electronic architecture allows businesses to integrate their own applications directly into the vehicle’s systems. Delivery companies, for example, can display schedules, routes and job details on the dashboard, while specialist conversions such as refrigerated vans can use dedicated apps to manage onboard equipment.
The technology also opens the door to more sophisticated remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance, helping operators to avoid downtime.
Its 800V electrical architecture supports DC charging at up to 240kW with the 81kWh version, allowing an 80% charge in less than 20 minutes. It is also currently the only medium-sized electric van in the UK market with 800V electrical architecture, Renault says.
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability allows compatible electrical equipment to be powered directly from the van’s battery.
UK pre-orders open in November 2026, with first customer deliveries scheduled for Q2 2027.
What is a software-defined vehicle (SDV)?
A software-defined vehicle uses an advanced electronic architecture that allows functions to be updated, improved or added through software throughout its working life. Trafic E-Tech electric is Renault's first SDV, supporting over-the-air updates, customised applications and connected vehicle services.
