Renault Group and energy company EDF Group have agreed to develop “smart” electric vehicle (EV) charging services in France, with rollout planned for summer 2027.
In a joint statement, the parties said they share the view that wider EV adoption depends on charging solutions that are simple, accessible, and financially advantageous for French households.
EDF will work alongside IZI by EDF, its subsidiary, and DREEV, part of EDF Business Services.
The partnership aims to offer a combined package comprising an EV, a home charging point, and an automated charging-management system.
Consumers will be able to obtain the package through Renault Group’s dealer network.
IZI by EDF will install the home charging equipment, while the management software is intended to improve convenience and reduce household electricity costs.
The agreement covers single-family homes and focuses on selling and installing home charging points, developing functions to simplify and optimise EV charging, and introducing services that allow vehicle energy to power household appliances or be supplied back to the grid when needed.
Renault Group customer experience & energy VP Jérôme Faton said: “By helping to better manage charging costs and creating new opportunities to unlock value from energy, Renault Group and EDF Group, two French leaders, aim to make electric mobility even more attractive and accessible across the country.”
The project will use bidirectional charging, including vehicle-to-grid technology.
Renault, Alpine, and Dacia EVs connected to the system will be able to feed part of their stored battery power back into the grid.
According to the statement, the arrangement would provide “flexibility” to the electricity grid and reduce charging costs.
EDF Business Services president Christelle Vives added: “This alliance demonstrates how two leading French companies can join forces to advance competitive, sovereign and low-carbon mobility.”
Earlier this week, Renault chose South Korea’s LG Electronics to supply an integrated cockpit solution for its New Trafic E-Tech Electric.
