June’s diesel share of new car sale in the region was 14.1% with this unlikely to change, with just one market’s result being estimated at the time of writing. May is confirmed at 14.8%, so the downward trend continues (slowly) though from a year-on-year perspective, the difference is not much more than one percentage point.

Several markets, including Finland, Spain and Switzerland delivered higher diesel shares in June this year than a year earlier. Italy was the biggest faller, partially because of a big release of BEV incentive money that caused the market to pivot to BEV (BEV sales were up 117% YoY in June). Elsewhere the BEV market is soft, a key reason why ICE and hybrid volumes are holding up well.
