In data: June’s European diesel share fell slightly MoM, but is close to the year-ago level

June's diesel share of Western Europe's car market fell slightly, according to figures released by GlobalData

robbie July 26 2024

June’s diesel share of new car sale in the region was 14.1% with this unlikely to change, with just one market’s result being estimated at the time of writing. May is confirmed at 14.8%, so the downward trend continues (slowly) though from a year-on-year perspective, the difference is not much more than one percentage point.

Several markets, including Finland, Spain and Switzerland delivered higher diesel shares in June this year than a year earlier. Italy was the biggest faller, partially because of a big release of BEV incentive money that caused the market to pivot to BEV (BEV sales were up 117% YoY in June). Elsewhere the BEV market is soft, a key reason why ICE and hybrid volumes are holding up well.
