South Korean electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging equipment manufacturer and network operator, Chaevi Company Ltd, announced that it has been nominated as the preferred bidder for a government-led project to install and manage EV charging stations at highway rest-stops nationwide, according to local reports.

The contract involves the installation of 131 charging stations in 29 highway rest stops nationwide, under the Korea Expressway Corporation’s 2026 EV charging station construction project. These include 118 200-kilowatt (kW) chargers and 13 multi-chargers, to be installed at rest-stops on major highway corridors linking Seoul and major cities across South Korea.

Chaevi confirmed that, combined with its existing contracts signed in 2025 and earlier this year, the total number of chargers to be installed on highways across the country will rise to 167, including more than 80 to be fitted with NACS (North American Charging Standard) connectors, which were originally designed by Tesla. The US battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer is now South Korea’s largest vehicle importer and is one of the country’s largest BEV brands.

Chaevi noted that it currently operates around 10,000 fast-charging spaces in South Korea, and that it is currently focused on developing new technologies, including megawatt charging systems, artificial intelligence-based charging services, and autonomous charging.
