Octillion Power Systems, a US-based supplier of battery systems for electric vehicles, has launched its third manufacturing facility in India.
The plant, located in Halol, Gujarat, covers an area of more than 13,000m².
It was converted from an empty structure into an operational battery manufacturing unit in less than eight months, the company said in a statement.
Octillion Power Systems global president Paul Beach said: “Delivering a fully operational plant in under eight months is a testament to the discipline of our team and our ability to execute at speed without compromising the quality standards our customers depend on.”
Once operating at full output, the Gujarat plant is expected to manufacture over 48,000 battery systems a year, representing more than 3GWh of annual energy storage capacity.
Octillion said that, together with its two other Indian facilities, its total annual capacity in the country is forecast to exceed 150,000 battery systems and around 9GWh of battery capacity.
The production is intended to serve passenger vehicles, trucks and light commercial vehicles, and buses.
The company added that the Gujarat operation is set up to extend beyond basic assembly, incorporating its standardised production processes, thermal modelling work and battery management systems into the local supply base.
Octillion said this is aimed at shortening lead times, improving customer responsiveness and creating in-country backup capacity as vehicle makers seek to reduce supply risk.
