Despite shrinking overall markets, the Volkswagen Group boosted sales worldwide by 1.3% to 10,974,600 vehicles in 2019.

Volume growth was achieved in Europe (3.9%) and South America (3.2%) while there were falls in North America (-0.5%) and Asia-Pacific (-0.4%).

Electric vehicle sales rose 80% to about 140,000 units.

Sales in Europe rose 3.9% to 4,552,800 vehicles with western Europe volume up 4.6% to 3,747,000.

German sales rose 6.2% to 1,364,000 while central and eastern Europe deliveries rose 1.1% to 805,800. Russia sales were up 1.6% to 233,600.

North America sales fell 0.5% to 951,500.

US sales rose 2.5% to 654,200 but Canada, deliveries were off 5.3% at 112,200. Mexico reflected the overall market, down 7.4% to 185,100.

South America sales rose 3.2% to 608,600 vehicles with Brazil up 17.1% to 470,400. Argentina sales. reflecting the overall economic situation, fell 39.5% to 71,800.

Asia-Pacific volume dipped 0.4% to 4,530,100 vehicles. China sales rose 0.6% to 4,233,600.
