Volkswagen brand global sales in August dipped 3.8% year on year to 493,800 vehicles.

“In a generally declining global market, Volkswagen succeeded in maintaining a stable market share in the reporting month and a slight increase for the year to date,” the brand said in a statement.

As expected, fewer vehicles were delivered in Europe (-9.9%) following a particularly strong performance in August 2018 due to changing regulations bringing forward sales.

In Brazil and the US, VW saw increases of 15.4% and 9.8% respectively.

Western Europe sales fell 9.8% to 97,400 vehicles.

Central and Eastern Europe volume fell 10.7% to 22,100.
