Geely's Volvo Cars claimed it was "off to a good start" for 2018 after booking a global year on year sales increase of 22.4% in January, growing volume in all its main markets.
First month sales of 43,439 cars compared with 35,475 a year earlier. The new XC60 and its 90 series siblings were the main drivers of growth, the automaker said.
Sales in China rose 38% to 11,537 units following the local start of production and sales of the XC60. High demand continued for the also locally produced S90 and S60 saloons.
European sales rose 11.7% also boosted by the XC60 and older XC90 plus the V90 estate.
The US market [our full analysis here] also started the year strong, with a huge 60.5% increase as XC90, S90 (imported from China) and XC60 drove sales and XC60 was named a North American Utility of the Year.
The XC60 was top selling model worldwide in January, with 11,656, followed by the XC90, (6,772) and S90 (6,057),up from 1,843 the previous year.
