VinFast announced that it has begun local production of its VF MPV 7 battery-powered electric vehicle at its Subang plant in West Java, Indonesia. The Vietnamese battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer said this represents a “significant step forward in the company’s global manufacturing expansion strategy and reinforces its long-term commitment to one of Southeast Asia’s most promising BEV markets.”

VinFast made the announcement during a four-day VF MPV 7 customer experience campaign held at Central Park Mall in the capital city Jakarta, where it offered test drives and hands-on activities, allowing potential customers to directly experience the vehicles. The company is also offering the locally-made models’ first 2,000 customers a special cashback incentive of IDR 16 million (US$ 900), while also offering free charging at V-Green charging stations across Indonesia until the end of March 2029.

The VF MPV 7 is the premium version of its Limo Green, a 3-row, 7-seater MPV engineered specifically to target taxi fleet operators. It was first introduced in Indonesia in February this year as a model imported from Vietnam.

The VF MPV 7 is driven by an electric motor with a maximum output of 150 kW (201 hp), powered by a 60.2 kWh battery pack providing a range of up to 450 km on a full charge. The vehicle is also equipped with intelligent and connected technologies, including a virtual assistant with Indonesian voice control, remote vehicle management and location services via a smartphone app, and a range of active and passive safety features.

Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto, CEO of VinFast Indonesia, said in a statement: “The VF MPV 7 is a strategic product within VinFast’s electric vehicle portfolio in Indonesia, reaffirming our long-term investment commitment and sustainable development vision for the market. The rollout of the first VF MPV 7 from the Subang plant marks an important milestone in our localization journey, enhancing competitiveness while delivering high-quality, intelligent, and accessible electric vehicles tailored to the real-world needs of modern urban families in Indonesia.”
