Automakers sold 10,052 vehicles in Vietnam in June, a rise of 4% year on year, led by Toyota, an industry association said on Wednesday.
Toyota surpassed domestic firm Truong Hai Auto Corporation, the top seller in May, to lead the tally with 2,905 units, up 35% from June 2009, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association said in its monthly report, Reuters reported.
For the first half of 2010, the car industry in Vietnam sold 50,278 cars, up 5% year on year, the association said.
Car sales have picked up slowly along with the economy, which expanded an estimated 6.4% in the second quarter from a year earlier, accelerating from growth of 5.83% in the first three months.
Car imports, which have been limited by the government as part of measures to reduce the country’s trade deficit, rose 27.6% in the first six months of 2010 from a year earlier to US$1.29bn, government statistics show.
