Finnish contract assembler Valmet Automotive built a record 90,000 vehicles at Uusikaupunki during 2017.

Production volumes have been increasing since 2013 after a vehicle manufacturing agreement with Daimler. Initially the plant made the Mercedes-Benz A-Class but added the GLC SUV in February 2017.

That year, production reached a record 90,000 A-Class and GLC SUVs.

"This is a remarkable ramp-up for the Uusikaupunki, Finland plant, as the previous record dates from 2015 with over 70,000 cars," the contractor said.

"Despite the production ramp-ups throughout 2017 and the concurrent record-high recruitments, we have succeeded in delivering top quality and reliability," said Pasi Rannus, SVP, Manufacturing business line, Valmet Automotive.

The contractor said the new record was a strong case for its scalable manufacturing services, ranging from limited volume vehicles, such as convertibles and sports cars, to premium high volume products.
