Valeo says it is to acquire telematics and mobile connectivity company, Peiker, although the fee has not been disclosed.
The French supplier says the combination will allow it to offer automakers new telematics systems equipped with high-speed connectivity and cybersecurity features.
The systems will feature vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to infrastructure (V2I) communication technologies and be compatible with forthcoming LTE Advanced (4G+) mobile internet services.
Valeo adds it is developing a range of technology systems using ultrasonic sensors, radars, cameras, laser scanners, head-up displays and software to make vehicles more energy efficient, safer and intuitive.
Peiker will report sales of around EUR310m (US$337m) in 2015 and the acquisition – subject to approval of anti-trust authorities – will have a positive impact on Valeo’s results starting next year.
“We are delighted to welcome the Peiker teams to Valeo,” said Valeo CEO, Jacques Aschenbroich. “Our exchanges with Peiker’s experts, under the technological cooperation agreement we signed in early 2015, have been extremely fruitful.
