Automotive technology company Valeo has partnered with ROHM Semiconductor to jointly develop the next generation of power electronics for electric motor inverters in electric vehicles (EVs).

This partnership will leverage both companies’ expertise in power electronics management to optimise future powertrain solutions.

As part of the collaboration, ROHM will supply its Silicon Carbide (SiC) 2-in-1 molded module, TRCDRIVE pack, to Valeo for integration into upcoming powertrain systems.

The TRCDRIVE pack, a SiC molded module developed by ROHM for traction inverter drives, features high power density and a “unique” terminal configuration.

The pack is designed to address the challenges of traction inverters related to miniaturisation, higher efficiency, and reduced labour hours.

Valeo said it is expanding access to electrified mobility across all vehicle types, from e-bikes to passenger cars and e-trucks.

The company plans to combine its expertise in mechatronics, thermal management, and software with ROHM’s power modules to advance power electronic solutions to improve performance, efficiency, and support global decarbonisation efforts in the automotive industry.

Valeo Power Division CEO Xavier Dupont said: “This partnership marks, for Valeo Power Division, a significant step forward in delivering advanced and high-efficient power electronics.

“Together, we aim to set new industry standards for high voltage inverters and accelerate the transition towards more efficient and affordable electric mobility.”

Valeo and ROHM have been working together since 2022, focusing on improving motor inverters, a crucial part of EV and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) propulsion systems.

Their collaboration aims to enhance power electronics, boosting energy efficiency, reducing heat through better cooling and integration, and enhancing reliability with SiC packaging.

ROHM Semiconductor president Wolfram Harnack said: “We are pleased to support Valeo, a renowned automotive supplier, with our power semiconductors.

“ROHM’s TRCDRIVE pack provides high power density, leading to an improved power efficiency. Together, we contribute to the development of highly efficient powertrains by fostering the collaboration with Valeo.”

Valeo is set to begin supplying a first series project with these advanced power electronics in early 2026.
