Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported October vehicle sales of 123,920, down 5.7 percent from last year’s record-setting October. Calendar-year-to-date (CYTD) sales total 1,359,200, an increase of 126,209 units, or 9.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
“The economy’s smooth transition from express train to commuter train will continue to keep consumer confidence positive and industry sales strong,” said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president. “Even though the growth rate may moderate, industry sales will be strong and sustainable well into next year.”
The Lexus Division posted best-ever October sales with 17,543 units, an increase of 9.6 percent over the same period last year. The record sales were fueled by the launch of the all-new LS 430 luxury sedan with sales of 2,732, an increase of 105.0 percent. The IS 300 sport sedan continued its strong sales pace with 2,074 units sold.
Toyota Division passenger car sales were led by the ECHO subcompact sedan with best-ever October sales of 3,425, up 23.8 percent. The all-new Prius gas/electric hybrid sedan recorded impressive sales of 829 units.
Toyota Division light truck sales were led by the all-new RAV4 compact sport utility vehicle which posted its all-time best-ever sales month with 7,637 units sold, an increase of 76.3 percent. The popular Tundra full-size pickup recorded its best-ever October with 7,837 sales, up 18.9 percent over the same period last year.
Sales of North American-built vehicles made up 61.1 percent of total October sales.
