Material Sciences Corporation and Arcelor have signed a strategic alliance covering the manufacturing, marketing and sales of ‘Quiet Steel’ products to European car makers.
“Comfort and sound quality is becoming more important in the development of new vehicles. This new alliance is dedicated to providing superior noise, vibration and harshness performance of body-in-white components and powertrain applications. Quiet Steel is designed to control noise at the source which eliminates the need to use secondary sound treatments that add significant cost and mass to a vehicle,” said MSC general manager Clifford Nastas.
Quiet Steel is engineered multilayer composites with various viscoelastic cores among layers of metal. The recyclable laminated steel materials are claimed to offer significant cost reduction and enhanced NVH performance characteristics.
MSC will be in charge of product and application engineering and Arcelor will manage production.
Arcelor will also provide MSC with extensive access to European automakers through its existing sales network.
