Kia is supplementing its Sportage SUV with a newer, more powerful model called the Sorento powered by a 192bhp 3.5-litre V6 with four-speed automatic transmission.

In the US, where the model was unveiled at this week’s Chicago Motor Show, the new Korean SUV will be offered with both two-wheel (why?) and either part-time or on-demand four-wheel drive.

Americans will get the body-on-frame Kia SUV with three trim levels but antilock brakes and leather interior are nonetheless optional across the board.

Like other Kias, the Sorento, which is intended to rival the Jeep Liberty and Ford Escape (more interior volume than either is claimed), has a five-year warranty package.
