The International
Automobile Show in Detroit January 2001 will see four BMW world premières
and the US debut of the new British-built Mini.
Topping the Bavarians’ bill will be a new high performance version of
the US-built X5. Powered by a 4.6 litre V8 engine, which develops 347 bhp and
480 Nm (354 lb ft) of torque, it will accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph
in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 149 mph.

The German-made M3 Convertible will also be seen in public for the first time
and shares its 343 bhp, 365 Nm (260 lb ft) 3.2 litre, straight six cylinder
engine with the M3 Coupé.
New US-made M Coupé and M Roadster models feature a new 3.2 litre straight
six Motorsport engine developing 325 bhp, up from the 321 bhp of the previous
models.
