DURA Automotive Systems, Inc. has developed a new approach to parking brake technology with its Electronic Park Brake System. The company claims that its new electronic brake eliminates the need for a handbrake or footbrake inside the vehicle, improving vehicle packaging and freeing valuable interior space, which can then be utilised for other value-added features.

Unlike traditional parking brakes, the DURA Electronic Park Brake locates the brake actuator remotely and interfaces with a small interior switch to activate the system.

Unveiled on the Jaguar S-Type at the 2002 North American International Auto Show, the DURA Electronic Park Brake systems are designed to work in conjunction with hydraulic braking systems typical in mass production today. The systems are offered in both North American and European DURA facilities.
