AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) has completed a major expansion of its powder metal manufacturing facility at Eighty Four, PA. The expansion adds a second production line for AMETEK’s Motor Vehicle Series (MVS(TM)) 400 high-quality metal powders, increasing the capacity for the stainless steel and high-alloy metal powders by 30 percent.
The additional capacity allows AMETEK SMP to remain a key supplier of stainless steel powder and to respond effectively to the fast-growing automotive parts market. Demand for stainless steel powder for automotive applications has grown considerably in recent years, and that trend is expected to continue as automotive manufacturers specify stainless steel and high-alloy powders for critical parts, such as passenger car exhaust system flanges and camshaft lobes for sport utility vehicles.
AMETEK SMP is a market leader and innovator in the field of specialty metal powders and alloys. This differentiated business supplies niche markets in a variety of industries, including automotive, telecommunications, appliance, marine, and general industrial applications. In addition to stainless steel and high-alloy powders, AMETEK SMP products a variety of nickel, nickel-iron, and cobalt alloys, metal strip, wire, clad and composite materials at its manufacturing plants in Eighty Four, PA, and Wallingford, CT.
AMETEK SMP is a unit of AMETEK, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange-listed company and a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors with annual sales approaching $1 billion.
